Educational Spotlight: Shirley Levin

Shirley Levin is a nationally recognized Educational Consultant specializing in assisting high school students and their families with the entire college admissions process. Shirley opened her private practice in 1981 and since then she has helped thousands of families in the Greater Washington DC area as well as throughout the USA and other countries. She understands the multitude of available options after high school leading to educational and career success.

Through ongoing personalized counseling, students and parents are able to make informed choices, successfully complete all aspects of the application process, and achieve their individual goals.

Shirley's services include:

• Evaluating students' academic and personal goals
• Recommending high school course selections
• Planning the best dates for scheduling SAT, ACT and other appropriate standardized tests
• Referring students to qualified tutorial services
• Developing a list of appropriate college choices, taking into account: Academic and Pre-professional goals; financial considerations; and personal/extracurricular/athletic opportunities
• Reviewing Applications and assist with Essays, and Resumes
• Preparing for interviews
• Offering advice on applying for Need and Merit based financial aid
• Assisting with planning productive and informative College Visits
• Informing students about creative summer activities; employment opportunities and internship programs.

Shirley also advises college students on transfer applications and applications to Graduate and Professional Schools.

She is the author of several books published by The College Board. She has been featured on Good Morning America, and ABC Evening News; and has been quoted in major national newspapers and magazines as well as local media. Shirley presents College Planning Workshops for various community organizations, both locally and nationally.

She is a CERTIFIED EDUCATIONAL PLANNER, AND member of and former Board member of NACAC, PCACAC IECA, AICEP, and ACCESS.

Despite her many years in practice, she remains passionately interested in each of her students, and finds the challenges of maintaining her knowledge base as compelling and exciting as ever.
