The gender balance in education has been transformed over the last several decades. Females have come to dominate the educational landscape, taking more rigorous classes, attaining higher grades, graduating from high school, college and graduate school at significantly higher rates than males. However, female students continue to lag behind on standardized measures and in STEM participation. Males seem to have a good deal of academic confidence, but often struggle to deliver their best outcomes. What distinct types of support do male and female students need to thrive?
