Meet the Tutor
Melody is a Preferred Tutor who works with students on SAT/ACT prep, AP exams, and a wide range of academic subjects. AP Environmental Science and AP Human Geography are among her favorite AP subjects to teach. Originally from Virginia Beach, Melody earned dual degrees in International Affairs and Global Justice from James Madison University. She has experience working with students of varying levels, both individually and in groups. When it comes to her tutoring style, Melody says, "I focus on the needs of each individual student. I really like to get to know the student's learning style and get to know the student better in his/her interests outside of school before jumping right in. I also encourage the student to take any avenue he/she may feel could be a way to find the solution to a problem- outside of the box thinking and problem-solving is always encouraged. I love when a student can teach me something new about a topic, and I've only experienced great results with the use of positive reinforcement." When she isn't tutoring, Melody enjoys listening to music and watching tennis.
Here's what families are saying about Melody:
Melody was not only extremely qualified and knowledgeable, but engaging as well. My daughter, who typically is not open to working with tutors, benefitted from working with Melody on a weekly basis. In fact, she really looked forward to attending her SAT classes each week, which is something she never expected she would say! Melody transformed a stressful period in my child's school career into something my daughter can look back on as a positive, fun experience.
