PSAT Prep FAQs

What is the PSAT/NMSQT?

The PSAT/NMSQT is given at school each October. Like the digital SAT, it takes 2 hours and 14 minutes and includes a Reading and Writing section and a Math section that adapt to your student's answers. It's scored from 320 to 1520, and for juniors it's also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

How does PSAT prep help with the SAT?

The two tests share a format, so the skills your student builds for the PSAT carry straight into SAT prep. Sophomores often use it as an early read on the SAT; juniors aiming for National Merit recognition prepare for a specific score.

When should my student start PSAT tutoring?

Because the test date is fixed, a plan that starts the summer before junior year leaves room for several full-length practice tests before October.

Is PSAT tutoring online or in person?

Both. Private sessions run online over Zoom, or in person where Applerouth has local tutors.
