ACT Prep FAQs
How long is the ACT, and is Science required?
The ACT takes about 2 hours and 5 minutes: English (50 questions in 35 minutes), Math (45 questions in 50 minutes), and Reading (36 questions in 40 minutes). The Composite score, from 1 to 36, is the average of those three sections. Science is now optional and scored separately, so your student needs it only if their colleges ask for it.
Which ACT prep option is right for my student?
Private tutoring fits students who need work on pacing as well as content, or who are aiming for a top Composite Score. Group classes suit students in the middle of the score range who want a structured review. The ACT Online Course gives a full year of instructional videos and online practice tests to students who prefer to study independently.
Is ACT tutoring online or in person?
Both. Private sessions run online over Zoom, or in person where Applerouth has local tutors. Group classes also meet online and in person.
When should my student start ACT prep?
Earlier is better. Jed Applerouth's 2015 doctoral study of 1,933 SAT students at Georgia State University, found that students who started earlier in junior year saw positive effects.
