Over 150,000 students apply to middle and high school in the New York City area every year, and the choices are vast: public, private, parochial, charter, and others. The NYC public high school admissions process alone features over 700 programs from which families can choose. A complex matching process adds to the angst faced by families each year, most of whom are vying for a select number of spots amongst the elite schools scattered throughout the city.

As a former independent (private) school admissions officer and NYC Department of Education official, Maurice Frumkin of NYC Admissions Solutions helps families and schools navigate this complex process each year. After training hundreds of guidance counselors and thousands of families throughout the city, running the SHSAT (Specialized High Schools Admissions Test), being involved in all aspects of running the citywide high school admissions process, and counseling anxious and frustrated families, Maurice realized that many families were looking for in-depth, personalized, and expert advice. NYC Admissions Solutions was born.

Much like a college admissions coach, Maurice’s ultimate objective in working with families is to maximize the student’s chances of receiving a strong school fit. While many families seek out support with competitive school admissions tests such as the ISEE, SSAT, or SHSAT, Maurice helps families develop and implement a sound, comprehensive strategy with their school search – whether their focus is public, private/parochial, or both. This can involve helping with everything from identifying schools, to interviewing and preparing application submissions, to understanding what to do throughout the admissions process and when. Ultimately, Maurice can help families save time, aggravation, and improve the student’s chances for a desirable result.

Maurice has been involved in education since attending the University of Pennsylvania, where he ran an afterschool program in local schools while earning his bachelor’s degree. After spending several years in the corporate world, he realized his calling was working with students. In his years spent in schools and the NYC DOE, Maurice has taught middle school students, run award-winning afterschool programs, coached baseball, and advised hundreds of families. He has an MBA from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Lisa, and puppy, Arthur Fonzarelli.
