Educational Consultant Spotlight: Bobbi Crocker

It is difficult for students and families to sort through the complexities of the college search and application process. Between the costs, competition, media blitz and emotional components of this exciting time, finding schools that match a student’s academic and personal goals is challenging.

Bobbi Crocker is a professional independent educational consultant who provides the insight, knowledge and guidance to help families through each step of the process. Her philosophy is to focus on the student’s growth and maturity during their junior and senior years while guiding them to present themselves authentically to colleges. Bobbi approaches every student individually, listening and asking questions. She develops trust and a rapport in order to understand the strengths and personality a student brings to a campus. Bobbi is their mentor, coach and cheerleader. She prides herself on fostering a strong personal relationship as demonstrated by the fact that many of her former students come to her to discuss post collegiate plans.

She assists with curriculum planning, and brainstorming summer and school year activities that match a student’s interest. Bobbi creates college lists that represent a mix in terms of selectivity while addressing the potential of merit scholarships. Her ability to extract a student’s story for their essay is one of her strengths. All of a student’s anxieties associated with the essay development disappears after one ideation session. Through in depth conversation, students realize that the information they share reveals a theme about their identity and by using examples, they have developed their opening paragraph! A cloud is lifted!

Bobbi understands a college’s perspective when reviewing an application after spending several years as an admissions reader. She will be back at it in December working for a very selective school in Pennsylvania. Her background also consists of being a marketer, parent liaison to Admissions on a College Council, alumni interviewer for Bowdoin College and a parent of two college graduates who were athletic recruits. Every year, Bobbi spends time visiting and revisiting colleges to understand the strengths, energy and vibe of each school. Most importantly, Bobbi’s practice is based on listening to families, bolstering student’s confidence and alleviating the anxiety for the family.
