Meet a few of out tutors below!

Tom B.

Tom is a longtime Premium Tutor and the Director of Tutor Services here at Applerouth. Tom earned a Bachelors of Science with a Double Major in Economics and Finance at the University of South Alabama and followed that up with an MBA from the University of Rochester, focusing on both Corporate Accounting and Finance. After working in the finance world for several years, Tom went back to school, earned a Teaching Certification in Broad Field Business, Economics, and History at the University of Georgia, and taught high school for over 13 years. Since joining the team in 2011, Tom has tutored over 650 students and is one of our Top 10 Most-Requested Tutors. Tom has tutored multiple students who have achieved perfect section scores and perfect composite scores on the SAT and ACT. He sums up his tutoring philosophy simply and decisively: “Take a two pronged approach: master the material and master the test.” When Tom isn’t tutoring, you can find him fishing, driving his trademark red Camaro, and – most importantly – spending time with his family.

Tom is an amazing tutor; he does a great job of preparing his students and really connects with them. Fabulous!

Matt K.

Matt is a Premium Tutor and Applerouth’s Training Manager. He also works with our instructional design team, writing curriculum and practice materials for a wide range of student levels. His students have achieved perfect section scores on both the SAT and ACT and go on to attend competitive universities all over the world. Matt also tutors a wide range of other subjects, including AP and IB classes, as well as SAT Subject Tests and private school admissions tests. A California native, Matt earned his B.A. at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his M.A. at Emory University. Before finding his home at Applerouth, Matt taught at Emory University and several other Atlanta-area colleges. When he isn’t tutoring, Matt enjoys playing the guitar and cooking.

I just want to let you know what an incredible tutor Matthew is. He worked with both of my boys and guided them successfully through this process. They both found the sessions helpful and Matt fun and engaging. Thank you!

Shara- Sue S.

Shara-Sue is a Premium Tutor and the Tutor Manager for all of our Atlanta-area Preferred Tutors. Since joining Applerouth in 2014, Shara-Sue has tutored almost 500 students, several of whom have gone on to achieve perfect section scores on both the SAT and ACT. Shara-Sue’s dedication and infectious enthusiasm are impossible to miss: she is one of Applerouth’s Top 10 Most Requested Tutors and won the company-wide Above and Beyond Award in 2015 for her willingness to go the extra mile for her students and their families. Before joining Applerouth, Shara-Sue earned a BS in Art Marketing at the University of North Georgia and completed graduate coursework in Art Education at Georgia State University. She taught in the public school system for several years before becoming a full-time tutor with Applerouth. Shara-Sue describes her tutoring style as “lively, adaptive, energetic, visual, and auditory.” She works hard to empower her students and build their confidence as they get ready for test day. When she’s not tutoring, Shara-Sue creates art, travels everywhere she can, and enjoys all the cultural and artistic events Atlanta has to offer!

Shara-Sue is the most incredible tutor! We are so appreciative of her and of Applerouth’s matching us with her. We are so thrilled with the help and leadership she has provided our daughters, who adore her. She is truly wonderful.

Our New ACT Book

We released a brand new ACT book in 2018 and spent over 10,000 hours developing it.

Our team analyzed each section of the test and crafted a book that teaches every topic found on the ACT. It’s packed to the brim with the wisdom of the world’s best tutors.

As students work through each section of the book, they will find robust instruction for every topic covered on the ACT, tips and strategies for conquering test anxiety, and the tools they need to personalize and refine their practice.

Some highlights from this new edition:

  • Thousands of practice problems – modeled after real ACT questions – check understanding, push difficulty, and reinforce each lesson.
  • Study schedules and tutor recommendations help students customize an ideal study plan based on their score goals and the amount of time they have to prep.
  • Portals in the margins lead to other pages with related ideas, helping students make connections and boost understanding of multiple topics at once.
  • Pepper icons mark examples and practice problems that reflect the hardest difficulty seen on the test, allowing advanced students to focus their preparation.
  • Two full practice tests mimic the tone, content, and difficulty of the official test, allowing students to gauge their skills and their progress.
