Educational Consultant Spotlight: Murphy College Consultants LLC

Kiersten Murphy is the founder of Murphy College Consultants LLC, an independent college counseling firm based in the Seattle suburb of Issaquah, Washington.

Since 1992, she has been directly involved in admissions and school counseling in a variety of secondary and college settings on both coasts of the U.S.

Kiersten is praised for her personalized approach to the college search and application process. She takes on a small number of clients each year to ensure a highly personalized experience. It all starts with developing a relationship, so that she is able to identify student’s strengths, goals and wishes. This is accomplished by a thorough assessment of the student’s profile. Students are counseled on how to maximize their high school experience, while best preparing for their future college choices. The college list is at the heart of the process; she uses her years of tracking trends and information gleaned from personally assessing colleges across the nation to make personalized recommendations to her students. Students also learn how to evaluate college recommendations, how to bring out their unique voice in their essay writing, and preparing for college interviews. Throughout the process, she serves as a guide to ensure that all questions are answered and to help unveil the curtain of mystery that surrounds college admission.

In an effort to stay on top of trends, she attends national conferences on college admissions and spends a significant amount of time visiting college campuses across the nation to best facilitate matches between her students and potential campuses.

As a recognized expert on college admission counseling, she has been frequently quoted in the press, and has appeared on public radio, television and XM satellite radio. Kiersten is a faculty member for the University of California at Irvine’s Educational Consultant Certificate program. She has been a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association for over 10 years and is a member of the National Association of College Admission Counseling.

Kiersten is a graduate of Gettysburg College and has a Master of Education from The College of St. Rose.
